dirty hope
2017
80 x 60 x 20 cm

A concoction of collected dust and dirt sits on top of a sheet of white paint, soap and bleach.
Regardless of the physical constituents and textural expression, they are flattened onto a surface print of a flag. A reactive physical reality is reduced to a stylized, geometric expression: of a grey and (larger) white rectangles.
Irrespective of ideals and dreams of  perfectopm, as is normally stylized through flags, we do not individuallylive through symbols. Instead, we succumb to the physical reality of our bodies and environment: we will always have to sweep away the dirt.
